Null Pointer Exception stops the plugin from working

Description of problem: ModelEngine occasionally throws the following error. Afterwards, the plugin stops functioning, almost like it's been uninstalled from the server. I'd love for this to be a high priority bugfix because it totally grinds the plugin to a halt, although I understand it's a hard fix. Maybe a == null check is all that's needed?
